ABC News: One Truck Company Closes, Another Starts Hiring

Appomatox, VA - Less than a week after FWC Trucking closed its doors, another trucking company wants to hire its workers. PGT held a driver recruitment event in Appomattox Thursday- a great opportunity for 75 truckers laid off from FWC to get back to work.

"Out a work, gotta have something to do," said Tory Pritchett.

"I could use it badly. I got family," said LarryClark, who was recently laid off from FWC.  "I just bought me a Harley and I hate to lose it, you know!"

Clark worked at FWC for several years. News that he didn't have a job, and would have to compete with 75 others for what few jobs exist, hit hard.

 "I knew I had to start looking, I didn't know where," said Clark.  "I've been to several different places. No one is hiring."
But news that neighboring trucking company, PGT, is looking to hire as many qualified workers as they can find? That, was a welcome relief.

This is an area for us that we feel is going to be very productive, so we know that there are some good drivers down here so we came down to just target them," said Gary Gibson, a field recruiter for PGT. "We have a lot of freight and we want to give people jobs. Help them earn a good living."

And the drivers here say, they're ready to work.
"I hope I get it!" said Clark.

"I'm hoping I get a call in a week and they tell me to get on the bus and come to Pennsylvania," added Pritchett.
