Zachary Smith, Owner Operator & PGT Independent Contractor
Flatbedders are a Different Breed
Every truck driver has a story. Sometimes the stories are similar, and sometimes they are worlds apart. Always they are individually significant. Because for all of us, the sum of our experiences adds up to who we are, and where we go. In the trucking world, our life experiences lead to the roads we drive.
Take Zachary Smith, for example. We talked with Mr. Smith, at home in Pittsburgh, PA.
Dedicated to trucking.
Zach Smith has wanted to be a truck driver ever since he can remember. Zach was able to enlist in the service when he graduated from high school before he was old enough to drive long hauls. So he went into the army and saw active duty. He has been driving for 9 years, flatbedding for 5 years. Now he drives for PGT. You’ll see Zach and his beautiful blue truck on the road pulling a PGT trailer all over the hilly streets and roads of Pittsburgh.
PGT dispatchers listen.
Zach Smith appreciates the caliber of dispatchers for which PGT is known. According to Smith, “if they don’t know something, they are more than wiling to try and understand your request, and to get some direction. The guy I deal with on a day-to-day basis is outstanding.” To put it simply; “ I wouldn’t be there if I weren’t happy.”
They take care of the maintenance.
Smith said he really gives the PGT Maintenance department credit because they do their best to keep trucks and trailers running smooth. He likes dealing with them. They work well on all types of equipment.
In his own words:
"I shifted to PGT because everyday I’m home by 3 or so. I have a dedicated route. I run shuttles to Pittsburgh, pick up coils from US Steel Irvin, work in Dravosburg and then deliver them. Then I go back and get more. There’s never a lack of work.
I love my truck and I love my job. Every job has its quirks. Even the days that something goes wrong, I still love my job."
We couldn’t have said it better.
